Painted this during lunch one day and after work tonight, Wanted to do something kinda Murph like. :D

Dirty Bomb

Now that Dirty bomb is finally out in open beta, I decided to take a few shots tonight after work. These characters were made anywhere from 1-3 years ago alongside a fine sir named Vincent Joyau, the project certainly had its ups and downs and a few things did not end up the way I would have liked, but it was also a huge learning process for me at the time.

Here are some character shots, I will follow up with more when I get the time (I stayed until 2AM putting scenes and stuff together, haha)

E3: Gears of War Ultimate Edition!


Gears of War Ultimate Edition, The game we worked on with Blacktusk/Coalition for the past year just got announced at E3! I was fortunate enough to work on some cool characters/creatures with some very swell chaps. :DWhen the time is right I'll show some more focused images of the work I got to do!

Almost forgot about this, did a bit more to it and cleaned it up. Still a mess from not being planned out properly. I think i'll leave it here, not a good use of time to continue. Also, im really need to get back to some 3d...like...yesterday.

Spinny Orc :D

Scribbled an orc tonight, will do more to it definitely, but wanted to fiddle around with a site i found called DEPTHY, where you can upload or paint a depth mask and it'll, well, you get the picture. :) Try it out, its super fun, its easy to get a proper depth mask from zbrush BPR renders but i think its cooler for 2d stuff (if harder to get right, which this isnt!)

One step forward, Two steps back

I had gone through the process of redoing most of the body and neck for this guy, only to realise that I'd lost the things I originally liked, so ive literally reverted back about FIVE DAYS and continued from the point where I decided things needed to change.

The whole body was sculpted from a blob with no symmetry into the pose it is in right now. so I had ended up hacking it into a t-pose, cleaned it up, projected onto new topology and reposed with skinning for accuracy.

And all that work?...BAM, down the drain. :)


So it doesnt look like much since the last pic, just faffing about with PS again, i like the idea of the bruce lee claw scar, hehe :) ... Also I guess actually most of the work I DIDN'T scrap is still in the lower body, which ironically im not showing here.. hmm.

The red pandas are staying, one will be swinging on that big ring in a pose I already have burned into my head... will be cool.

I need to learn when and where to commit to what I have. I've wasted a lot of time trying to find certain sweet spots that'll make sense later on if I was just a bit more confident. I feel like I'm quickly becoming a 'blockout artist' at this rate... lol.

Windseer W.I.P


I think i have a curse of not finishing things once ive posted them.. but I reeeeeally want to update more often... I'll just update this post once im done with this painting. Having quite a bit of fun and getting used to using more textured brushes.

Still working on the panda dudes! hit a wall for a couple days but think i should be able to get back on track this weekend.

Anatomy!



I took a roughly sketched out torso from Friday lunchtime and decided to make a project out of it this weekend.. I really needed to get back into some anatomy as I haven't really done much lately and was quickly reminded how much it can surprise you and knock you off your feet. I'm definitely learning a lot and have adopted some new sculpting approaches.

This will still need some work though, there are some glaring issues and unfinished areas.. the legs, feet, hands and a considerable portion of the back need a major pass but im happy with the progress so far from. (also some scale issues with the forearm and the face is a whole other story)

Blocked out some of his armour tonight and cleaned up the anatomy on the body, still lots to clean but the armor is a nice distraction for now. Didnt bother doing much with the paintover, I should be (and am) experimenting in zbrush more.

This was very fun for me, it reinforced the confidence in my strokes and let me be a bit more reckless than usual. I think it pays off, and this is definitely something I will do more of. :)

oh and orc update soon, I started doing a paint over armour design as if I stay with the body i wont get anything done, I'll keep going in circles! It's going well, I think it's gonna be pretty fun. :)

Are paintovers a form of procrastination?

The answer is... yes. D:

And its barely even a paintover, lol.

Well i decided to stick with this guy, i need to be a bit more care free. :)

Not a lot of changes, more bulk around the neck and a bit more srs bsns in the face.



Juggling this, the orc and a bunch of 2d stuff atm, which i'd show if i bothered to get anything to a clean readable state before getting bored. :P

Not a whole lot to show, bouncing between 3 things atm, This orc, a painting (which i'll show soon ish) and a fun little sculpey animal. I've found it helps keep me productive to swap to another medium when my attention starts to slip. :)

So yeah, no huge progress, just trotting along!

updated pic as i havent made any real progress just merged the meshes together last night and gave him a neck. (lol) still needs cleanup overall but..

I just started converting all the dynamesh to proper topology, cleaning up zremesher results, hence max ^
